Okay, the long wait is finally over! We've compressed 24 hours of operation down to about 5 minutes, without using the fast forward button. Amazing, but true! Of course since we weren't personally there the whole time to take photos and videos of every single operator, we weren't able to include more than the three operators shown in the video (recorded live) plus a few others that had their photos taken and forwarded to us.

Most of the footage in the video was provided by Lee N5NTG, with some by Bob W2IK and Wade W5ERX.

Cheap Laptop for HAM Use

Gary Harmon

I have an older (6-7 years old) Dell laptop that is excess to my needs. It
works fine, battery holds a charge, has wireless, XP is loaded, USB jack has
a CD ROM that can be removed and replaced with a disk drive, 20GB hard
drive, 256K RAM (I think), wall charger, etc. The only issue is that the
cat5 jack does not work. Sell for $50 or trade for something HAM.

This is a little off topic.

Is anyone looking for ham friendly property to buy around the Austin, TX
area?

I am in the process of moving out of state for work and to be closer to my
family. My wife and I are selling our house with 9.82 acres, and no
restrictions or HOA's and can be ag-exempted. This place is perfect for a
ham station and antenna farm and is priced to sell as we need to move by
December 15th.

If you are interested please email me direct at KC9FOZ @ hotmail.com.

Thanks,
Tom

Seguin Repeater 146.76- pl 141.3

L. Upton <k1stx@...>

As of 12:36 p.m. Saturday September 26, 2009, Chaparral Amateur Radio Club aka Guadalupe County ARES would like to announce the re-birth of the .76 repeater! As many know, the .76 in Seguin has a special place in history, and is close to the hearts of many in the area. It was important to many, that this repeater pair stay with CARC and in Seguin.

Special Thanks go to Jeremy Davenport - KE5ELI, Don Kirchner - W5DK, and David Floyd - WD5IEH for their contributions in time, equipment and expertise completing the project. Over the last several months, this group of dedicated Amateurs has been working on this project, and today, the 146.76 was brought back to life, better than ever. The overall goal, upon installation of the new antenna (still 1 1/2 months from delivery) and some minor tweaks, is to have a strong and reliable wide area coverage repeater, that can be enjoyed by all, and provide valuable communications links during public service and disaster events! An IRLP node is in the works, as well as RF linking capability with another link system, to be used during emergency's and public service activities!

The current antenna is actually temporary, while waiting for the new one to come in, and considering, this antenna at some point or another suffered a lightning strike, we already have good signal reports from Canyon Lake and Bulverde areas! We would appreciate signal reports or lack of, from all areas surrounding Seguin including Bexar, Wilson, Comal, Hays and anywhere else. The repeater is open to all licensed Amateurs, and is available for groups to use during public services events and activities. Put it though the paces, and lets see what it will do!

The repeater is on 146.76 negative offset, with a 141.3 pl

Please e-mail your reports to jeremy@heitx.com or to k1stx@yahoo.com

CARC/GCARES will be scheduling regular nets in the near future.

Thank you again to all involved with the project!

To the HAM community,

I was just informed by Gordon Dial, K5SUZ, that his dear companion Liliane Bell, KC5AQP passed this morning. Liliane is well known to the San Antonio HAM community being a long time volunteer with the Bike to the Beach and other amateur radio activities. We have all been aware of her struggles of late but it does not make her passing any easier for us.

She will have a grave side service at Ft. Sam Houston, however the exact date and time has not been set. I will let everyone know when I have that information.

Our sympathies, condolences and prayers go out to Gordon and all of Liliane's friends, loved ones and family.

Milton, N5HMJ

Stolen Ham Gear

Shane O'Neal <shane@...>

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry to report that my vehicle was broken in to. They got the following
equipment:

- Yaesu FT-857
- Yaesu FT-7800
- 2 MFJ Mighty-Lite 25 amp switching power supplies
- 2 Puxing VHF handhelds
- Rigid Cordless Drill
- Ryobi bit set
- ECG soldering gun

The radios and power supplies were marked with my call sign (NS5D). A police
report has been filed.

Please be on the lookout for this stuff. If you do end up buying it off
someone, at least get a good price 'cause they didn't pay a cent. ;)

There have been a rash of "smash-and-grab" car burglaries in San Antonio. I
thought if I kept my stuff out of sight in a box in the back of my truck, it
would not be noticed. No dice. If you come to SA, don't leave anything you
want to keep in your vehicle.

73,
Shane NS5D
