Re: Hi when and where is the 2015 field day going to be held in san antoino?thanks Tony

Saturday/Sunday.

---------------------------------------------------

We start Friday, June 26 , at 3:30 PM at  Mini-Stor Self Storage unit.  We need to load up several pickups/vans/cars, and take the trailer to Shavano Park.  At Shavano Park we need to set up the tent, drop off tables/chairs and other supplies for Saturday.

T Mini-Stor Self Storage is at 1018 Patricia Dr, about 75 yards from the Patricia & West Avenue intersection. The driveway/entry is shared with Sterling H20 Car Wash (lime green building at 1030 Patricia Dr).

The Shavano Park Municipal Center is at 900 Saddletree Court,

The Friday effort involves facilities setup, Saturday we fill finish up required facilities and setup the operational equipment i.e. radios, antennas, computers, etc.

We must have volunteers, three or four of us can’t get it done.  Please let me know if you can assist Friday for setup, Saturday setup, and Sunday teardown.

We had low count attendance at this month’s meeting, and consequently, low sign-up for FD setup/operation/teardown.   We would really appreciate advance intentions for those able to help, it’s not good to find out we don’t have to get the job done efficiently.  It’s very tough for a minimal number of volunteers to get things done the way they should be done.   Last year it took about 8 or 10 of us about four hours or so to load up, transport, and setup at Shavano Park Friday - If only few show up for Fridays setup, it’s either not going to get done, or it will be well up into the night before we get finished.

If we do not get the facilities ready, and the stations operational, FD will not take place:  Field Day can’t happen if we do not get Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning setups done.

I’m recovering from a near hit lightning strike that occurred this AM (Sunday).  I HOPE to have cable internet and home phone service back up tomorrow (Monday) morning.  Am connecting through cell phone tethering at the moment and am fairly limited.  Cell phone communications is good (calls, text, and mobile email), k5mug@...  and craylester@... primary emails will be checked two or three times a day until I have verified cable internet and phone service.  So far, the decedent’s are two desktop computers, cable modem, about a half dozen wall-warts (and chargers), a couple led lights/lamps, Keurig coffee maker, and an over-the-air rooftop antenna.  Thank goodness my K3, the TS570, and other ham equipment seems to have survived without harm!   So much for the good news!

I think mine is an E also. Bought it new back in the 70s. Unfortunately when we moved in 1990, in our then new house every time I fired it up, it fired off the fire alarm. So that kinda curtailed my hamming. But computers filled the void.

Looking for someone who can look at and fix a FT-101B for a HAM so he can sell it.  He lives on the NW side, west of 1604 out Culebra Road.

If you have the knowledge, test equipment, and time, let me know and I will put you in contact with him.  The problem sounds like it may be finals or associated circuits.

Rowena will be out of pocket for the June Meeting setup and asked if I would sub for her to send out the notification/reminder for our June meeting.  She was instructed on access and use of the mail list initially when she took over but now just does it mechanically and doesn't remember the particular procedures/acess.

Actually, I suspect it's built/extracted from a member database, maybe in excel format, or a Word table, anyone know?

So, if anyone has access to a relatively current club group email list, I would really appreciate it you could contact me and provide access.  Really don't want to have to hand key a new list from the hard copy membership list.

I think the Yahoo page does an automatic reminder but many of our members to not access our Yahoo group so that's not a substitute.

I used to have a few emails that were sent to all SAR C members and it had all addresses listed - I no longer have any of those emails to build a new distribution group email.

Please contact me via k5mug at texis dot com.  (that is texis, not texas).

Thanks,

Help! Need at least 1 more volunteer for this Saturday - Tour de Cure ride - Rest Stop Ham in Verdi, TX (NE of Pleasanton)

Lee Besing

Due to some last minute cancellations, I ended up with a couple of uncovered rest stops, but fortunately, Ray AE5HN raised his hand to cover one of them for me.

I still need to cover a second rest stop that will likely be staffed from 9am-2pm (might get closed sooner) on the 103 mile route.  I'm not limited to only 1  ham per stop, more the merrier in my opinion.

Please contact me direct, not thru the list.  Text message 24/7 okay. If calling, please leave a message if no answer. I generally sleep in late since I work  until midnight or later most nights.   If you text, please include your name and call sign.

Location: Rest Stop #6

Verdi Community Center -

2905 Farm to Market Road 1784,

Pleasanton, TX 78064

We're using some 2 meter repeaters for this, no UHF repeaters being used.   Location probably requires use of a mobile radio / magnetic antenna or an external raised antenna like field day or base station setup.

Thanks in advance!

HB 939 — Thank You For Calling/Faxing Your State Representative

But, More Calls & Faxes Need To Be Made

HB 939 is still scheduled to be voted on by the Texas House of Representatives on Thursday, May 7, 2015.

As we said in last night’s email — we have a very, very good chance of passing this Bill — IF we have the same effort that everyone made on the cell phone bills.

John Robert Stratton, N5AUS, West Gulf Vice Director and his XYL, Mary, visited the Capitol today to speak to each Representative to personally ask them to vote for HB 939. A lot of State Representatives and their staffs commented that they had been called and/or faxed by Hams, asking them to vote for HB 939 — they were impressed.

But, many of you have not yet called or faxed your State Representative. We need you to do so.

The ARRL cannot pass legislation beneficial to Ham Radio — or defeat legislation that hurts Ham Radio — unless you help us. For those who did not call or fax, we really, really need you to do so on Wednesday.

You may determine who is your State Representative — and their fax and telephone numbers — by going to this link and inserting your zip code or your zip code and your address:

http://www.house.state.tx.us/members/find-your-representative/

Please DO NOT CALL OR FAX STATE REPRESENTATIVES TONY DALE, RENE OLIVEIRA OR MATT SCHAEFER. These Gentlemen are our Sponsors — they don’t need to be convinced.

DO NOT EMAIL — the ONLY effective contact methods are either faxes or telephone calls.

Whether you contact your Representative by phone or fax: BE POLITE – ALWAYS — elected Representatives and their staff are not our enemies.

They want to hear from their constituents — the people who vote for them — about Bills their constituents want passed. Some staff members may ask where you are from or for your telephone number – it is ok to tell them – it makes you “real” and convinces them you are not a phony caller.

If you call or fax and their telephone numbers are busy – that is good news, because it means other Hams are calling. KEEP CALLING OR FAXING UNTIL YOU GET THROUGH.

IF YOU SEND A FAX:

We suggest the following language:

Dear State Representative XXXX:

My name is YYYYY. I am licensed by the Federal Communications Commission as an Amateur Radio Operator.

Please VOTE FOR HB 939, without amendments. HB 939 is set on the House General State Calendars for Thursday, May 7, 2015.

HB 939 permits Texas homeowners to install modern, safe, quiet standby electric generators to protect their families during electrical power outages.

Thank you for your vote for HB 939.

Signed
YYYYY

IF YOU CALL:

Please tell the staff person to whom you speak (you will not be able to speak to the Representative, because he or she will be in
hearings):

(1) Your name is YYYYY

(2) You are an Amateur Radio Operator

(3) You are asking Rep. XXXX to VOTE FOR HB 939, without amendments —
it is scheduled to heard by the House on Thursday, May 7, 2015

(4) HB 939 permits Texas homeowners to install modern, safe, quiet
standby electric generators to protect their families during power outages

(5) Thank the Representative for his vote for HB 939.

(6) Say Goodbye and terminate the call.

Thanks.

Hello,
It's time again for the South Texas Hamfest in Aransas Pass.  This year it is on October 31.  We have opened Pre-Registration on the website, and lowered the entry price.  Changes to tables also.
Tables sold out last year, as a matter of fact, we oversold what we projected!
So, visit the site, print a flyer, pre-register, and then come down south, and enjoy a nice little weekend getaway.  We will have a Pre-Registration drawing for those who register before the deadline.  So, visit the site and look around, reserve your tables, it will be here before we know it!

Thank you and 73,

Spring is here and so is our public service event season.

We’ve got lots of events coming up, with something for everybody. No experience needed, just lots of enthusiasm.  These two events are the ones that we really need your help for, the Fiesta Wildflower 100 and the Tour de Cure ride.

April 26th (Sunday) – Fiesta Wildflower 100 Bicycle Tour. Still needing few more hams to help staff the 9 rest stops along the route, but no SAG drivers are needed. Last year 1,500 riders were registered. Start and finish will be at Morgan’s Wonderland, near Wurzbach Parkway and Thousand Oaks, on the northeast side. Event benefits Morgan’s Wonderland and it is an officially recognized Fiesta event. Last year the organizer gave us a $25 Valero fuel card (1 per rest stop) to help compensate for the cost of helping out.  There hasn't been any promise this year so far, but I'll be asking.

May 9th (Saturday) – American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure Bicycle Tour. We need hams for 9 break points, 10 SAG vans, plus a few other assignments. We will have brand new routes and a new starting location this year due to the City of Selma passing an anti-bicycle ordinance. The event has been relocated to the south side of San Antonio, at the Texas A&M University campus on South Loop 410, near Zarzamora. Routes go east toward Floresville and the longer routes loop down to Pleasanton, TX, over to Poteet and back up to the University finish line. Atascosa County Hams will be helping with the southern part of the longer route and we welcome their support!
