Well it was already announced in the meeting and everything, it’s pretty much “out there.” I did notice after attending the AARO meeting last night that their
Secretary’s report was MUCH less detailed than mine. I am making mine quasi transcripts (hey, why attend the meeting with the transcript is available lol), I may be take the idea from my colleague and begin to scale down.

Not sure I would've included the storage gate access code in such a publicly available document. But hopefully everyone on this list is honest. Of course there's also reason why we hire security for the Radio Fiesta also. :( Are we having fun yet? Lee Besing, N5NTG 210-771-7075 ( voice/text)

Qrp wattmeter/tuner
CrayL
just by chance, if anyone has a 5 or 10w wattmeter and/or tuner for qrp ( I'm using a Wilderness Sierra, 1 to 5 watt) I could borrow for a week or so until my order arrives, I would appreciate it. Really like to work it on an outing this weekend, and my tuner has 30w scale, and 20 & 15 barely indicates, 12 & 10 do not move at all (probably about 1 to 1 1/2w out). I'll be at the meeting tonight at Grady's. Thanks, Cray / K5MUG

Re: June SARC Minutes

They don’t allow attachments! Hm. Here is the text. SARC General Meeting June 12, 2014 Meeting was called to order by Bob Rod (K5AUW) at 6:55 PM. Presentation by Bob Rod (K5AUW) “Common Myths about Standing Wave Ratio.” Voltage Standing Wave Ratio = SWR. A Standing Wave is a wave of energy such as light or sound or RF or that appears to be standing still. This is because waves of energy are flowing at opposite directions. SWR is the ratio of the max to minimum voltage in the feed line. If you have high SWR and you are not using good coax, the extra voltage will punch a hole through the insulation. Myth: High SWR will cause radiation or RFI. SWR will not, by itself, generate RFI. Radiation is caused by a mixing of balanced and unbalanced antennas. A device called a BALUN (balanced/unbalanced) to use antennas and feed lines of different types. Myth: a SWR of 2:1 will prevent the radio from getting out. False, on HF band the use of high quality feed-line will allow SWR to be high without an effect. Use the highest quality, lowest loss feed-line that is practical. RG-58 is okay on 80 meters but wastes most of your power on UHF. A Hard line is great for UHF but a waste of money on 80 meters. Not all coax is equal. Myth: Antenna tuner does not tune the antenna it just fools the transmitter into thinking the antenna is tuned. False, it does not tune the antenna unless the tuner is at the antenna feed point. A tuner near the transmitter does not get rid of high SWR, it creates a conjugate match between the transmitter and the antenna, allowing maximum efficiency. Myth: Reflected power caused by high SWR goes back into the radio and burns up the finals. Reflected power cannot go back into the finals. High SWR can cause your finals to burn but not but that is because the reflected power reaches the radios coax connector and is reflected back to the antenna. Older solid state radios without high SWR protection will eventually burn up if connected to a high SWR antenna system. Bob Rod (K5AUW) offered a correction to the minutes: Lew Archer (WOYVY) will operate the GOTA Station at Field Day. Motion to approve the minutes (as amended) by Rich Kreiser (NOJBF) seconded by Bryce Weathersby (KE5KFD). Motion carries Treasurer's report is the same as last month. Motion to approve Treasurer's report by Bryce Weathersby (KE5KFD) seconded by Esmeralda Valague (KE5YFH) motion carries. Field Day: Richard Elder can be reached at 210-241-4600. Friday the 27th at 3:30 – Meet at the club storage area. If coming up NW Military from 410 – Turn Left on West Avenue and Right on Patricia. The gate code is 1716. Look for the 500 series area of the facility. The club needs pickup trucks to bring things to the site. The club trailer has a 2 inch ball. After loading, the club will caravan to Shavano Park Municipal facility. There will be various generators available. Bring extension cords, power strips, box fans and coax cable. There is a 10x20 shelter available that will be setup on Friday. After Friday setup everyone goes to Bill Miller at Huebner and Lockhill Selma. The generators will not be left out but left on the transport trucks. Saturday morning meet at 8:00 to set up generators and antennas. The club needs a lot of help to set up the 40 and 80 meter dipole. All should be operational by 12 noon and we will be operating all day Saturday through the night. Mike Check (K5UCQ) will bring a pop-up trailer with AC for a cooling station. Saturday evening around 6 PM – Rudy's BBQ will be served. Sunday morning we operate until 10:00 am, tear-down around 10:30/11:00. Then everything needs to be packed up and taken to the storage area. The club is hoping for 500+ contacts. There will be 4 computers and a hub/server to network together to reduce repeat contacts. There will be voice, would love some CW (extra points), if you have a digital station – bring it. Satellite also welcome. Red Cross officers, City Council, the media and others are welcome to stop by. If you have an antenna, bring it. Antenna analyzers will be available. The club will need to decide soon if we will officially be a 2, 3 or 4 station operation. GOTA does not count for points but is good outreach for non-licensed people. Rowena: Next month (in July after the meeting), Rowena will be looking for dealers and speakers for Ham Fest. Need input for new speakers, etc. Presentation for speakers is 45 minutes. Motion to adjourn by Esmeralda Valague (KE5YFH) seconded by Bryce Weathersby (KE5KFD) motion carries. Adjourn at 7:45 PM.

Amateur (Ham) Radio training - Free
Greetings,
Whether it is for emergency communications or as a hobby, if you have ever wanted to get licensed as an amateur radio operator, one of the groups I belong to is offer the training for the entry level license beginning July 20th. Aside from having an internet connection and a computer, the cost to each student is FREE, nothing, gratis!! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/89423607/tech2014/Outreach%20flyer%20for%20Technician%20Course%20--7-20-14.pdf If you cannot make each session, please do not worry, as the instructors will post it as a podcast within a day or two. Southcars is a very friendly group, and they have a plethora of knowledge if you have any questions along the way. For those you that are already licensed and receiving this, please share with your respective local clubs, and others that might be interested. If you have any questions about the class, or would like to register, please send an e-mail to voip@voipnet.southcars.com. 73 and thanks, *Tony Rahaim - KJ4PUJ*Southwest Florida, USA. http://voip.southcars.com/main/ http://www.araswf.org/ http://www.arrl.org/

I agree with all you said. Rowena has been working of field day for some time. The last two weeks Richard and Lew spent a lot of time getting things rounded up and picked up. We can't control band conditions, but all other aspects of field day went very well this year. J C Smith

Field Day, 2014!
CrayL
Just a short (well, I meant it to be short when I started) but very large THANK YOU! to all who are San Antonio Radio Club. I want to thank each and everyone who contributed to our Field Day 'operation' this weekend. And it's not only actual participants in this event, but all the club members who contribute by paying dues, attending our meetings, offering loads of helpful information in membership, support to other members, and contribution of encouragement, time and personal efforts that have kept this club operational and growing over the years. I extend a special appreciation to the officers, directors, special event coordinators and volunteers, present and past. I firmly believe the officials in any organization set the pace and attitude for that organization, and are prime instruments in the success or failure of said organization. In my opinion, today's SARC exemplifies that premise, at the top end. I won't go into naming each individual, but I must say a very special thank you to Rowena Archer: Your participation and contribution to SARC can easily be linked to a phrase we joked about early in the weekend: You certainly keep SARC in "tall cotton", for sure; a personal and pointed biggest THANK YOU of all! I am particularly indebted to all who went out of their way to help another newbie (ME, It's my first 'real' field day), because I thoroughly enjoyed SARC field day, the opportunity to participate and learn, and the camaraderie imminently displayed during this event. Lots of good folks and lots of fun out there this weekend. SARC is prime, folks, SARC is prime! Cray Lester / K5MUG

I need to update my address to the FCC and correct the misspelling of my name. Does anybody know if I have to fill out a form 605? And is my call sign = the FCC Registration Number? By the way, this is why I have not changed my address or the typo all these years. This should not be so complicated!
