Gonna call him tomorrow myself, have one set of 10 now, and could use a couple of more. Those poles are great, and making top adapters for them, are as simple as putting a piece of 1 1/4 pvc (i think it was) over the top section, and build to that!
Would love to find someone that has the aluminium ones, for making taller mast! Merry Christmas to all! Re: [bexarcountyares] Re: Fw: Ref QST Jan 2010 Pg 42
I've got one of those pole bags here at home already, bought last June up in Plano, if anyone in San Antonio wants to see what they looked like. Gary K5GST has a set, as does Al KE6LGE (both REACT members). The primary trick in using these seem to be securing the base so it doesn't shift on you, and using rope / cord to guy the middle / top to hold it upright.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
He's got a top piece available that is sort of like a disc that can rotate, letting you connect to the edges and spin to re-orient your lines, etc. It came with this flower petal type spreading base as well, but doesn't seem to sturdy to me. Was sturdy enough to drive over with my van's tire to hold in place, but I've seen / built better devices for that in the past. I think I paid about $40 for the bag with base & poles, and paid another $5 for the top. He's got other gadgets that let you connect guy ropes to brackets that you slip between the segments as you assemble them. He had another kit version that was a completed 20 or 40 meter vertical antenna, with a wire running up the middle (inside) the fiberglass poles, and so forth. Seemed to work okay, but I wasn't ready to buy that kit (cost more than I had available cash by that point while at Plano). Hope this feedback helps. Maybe SARC / W5SC should try to get the guy to come to the San Antonio Radio Fiesta Swapfest on January 23, 2010? __________________________ Lee Besing, N5NTG San Antonio, TX 210-771-7075 cell Twitter: N5NTG

Central Texas Traffic Net
Below are excerpts from an e-mail I received from Jeremy. If anyone has an
interest, contact he or I at our e-mails. PLEASE, NOT TO THE LIST! -------------------------------------------- My name is Jeremy Davenport (KE5ELI). I live in New Braunfels and Rodney (W5DY) asked me a while back now to be net manager for the CTTN. I accepted and promptly did nothing. I now have a few ideas on how to get the net back going again, but want your opinion. Second, I have been offered the use of two different machines as new homes for the net. 146.76 in Seguin and 444.450 in Canyon Lake. Either machine has better coverage than the .14 right now and I think either will cover what the .14 used to. What are your thoughts about either of these machines? 146.76 negative offset 141.3 PL 444.450 positive offset 114.8 PL Third, Are any of you willing to be net control for this net? I am going to work on getting a few more people involved, but need to know who is willing to still participate. Thank you for your time. My goal is to be back on the air in January. Re: Fw: Fwd: AL-572 Specifications
Gary Harmon
Thanks to Greg and David for sending the amp info to the W5SC list. I have
the amp in my possession and it checks out just fine. It belongs to a friend in Austin who purchased it, along with a Heathkit SB-220, from a SK estate in Austin. I went through the SB-220 and it was sold to a HAM in the area. The AL-572 had an ALC problem plus an intermittent ON-OFF switch. New parts solved the problems. The amp looks great. No obvious cosmetic issues. Works well on all bands using my trusty Heathkit HW-101 as the exciter. Comes with the original manual, fuses for 220v and a 220v plug. If you are interested and would like some pictures or you would like to drop by and see it, just let me know. Best 73, Gary H. Re: [STXARES] San Antonio Hams Newsletter Subscription - Christmas edition out 12/23
The end of 2009 marks the 6th anniversary of having SanAntonioHams.org online providing this service to the area ham radio operators. The next December Christmas issue will be sent out in about 24 hours or sooner, to the 400+ addresses currently subscribed. The subject matter is mostly ham radio related, and focused on events mostly in the central Texas area, but sometimes we put stuff in from all over the place, like the most recent story about a fire in Florida at a radio broadcast station, or the upcoming New Mexico QSO party.
We are willing to set up other hams to post their own articles or reports from their ham club / area of Texas. Just contact me and we'll make it happen. There is no charge or cost. We also offer free classified ads for hams, but our current offerings are a bit slim right now. Feel free to post your for sale, for trade, wanted, whatever, but no dog breeding ads, condos for sale, or work from home ads please! If you weren't already on the subscription list and want to be, just contact me off the list, or send email message to info@sanantoniohams.org with subject "subscribe". I only need your name, call sign and email address to add any entry into my database. This is a free subscription with no hidden strings or gotcha's. ...and if you don't want to subscribe, well, Merry Christmas to you anyway! Feel free to visit the website and its news blog area to read the stories manually when you feel like it, or not. Please white list "sanantoniohams.org" in your mail program or server to be sure it gets thru. I've put lots of video links and links back to more photos or stories, so some of the spam programs will catch this issue more than others. __________________________ Lee Besing, N5NTG San Antonio, TX 210-771-7075 cell Twitter: N5NTG
