We are still looking for at least 2 more SAG drivers. These drivers would be in pickup trucks, rather than vans, and focusing more on the MS riders who will be in trikes or tandem recumbent bikes as priority.

These vehicles are dual cab pickups. We rent them from Enterprise at the location just south of New Braunfels on IH-35 @ Solms Road. Fuel is paid for using provided gas cards.

If you have already volunteered , thank you. If you know of any other hams who might be interested,  please share.

See posted article on www.Sanantoniohams.org/blog for more details and the online volunteer signup link.

Opportunity Knocks!

Step Up and Help Lead Your Club!

Rosendo Guzman, N5YBG, President, San Antonio Radio Club (SARC) has appointed me (Joe Bruno W5AUQ) Chairperson of the Nominating Committee. (This is prima facie evidence that members will step up and help when asked, but then Rosendo has done things for me and helped me a bunch so I kind of owe him.) I have the following candidates so far:

President:

Rosendo Guzman, N5YBG (standing for re-election)

Need more nominees

Vice President

Lloyd Swartz, KF5ZHW

Need more nominees

Secretary

Gianna B Fang-Guzman (acting – pending a license)

Need more nominees

Treasurer

Jeff Boyes, ND8B (standing for re-election)

Need more nominees

Director through 2014

Joe Bruno, W5AUQ

Bill Craft, KD2HIQ

Need more nominees

I have talked to most appointed officers and committee chairpersons and they have agreed to continue on into 2020. That said, I want to emphasize several points:

• I would like more than one candidate for each office.

• I have a copy of the Constitution and By-Laws so I can review the duties of each office with anyone interested in a particular one.

• This is not a lone Ranger, singular exercise. Members will usually help an officer or committee chair when requested.

The Newsletter Editor position is an appointed one, but it is also available. Someone has expressed interest in it, but officially it is available. The acting Exalted Supreme Editor-In-Chief (Harold Fleischer, AE5AS) has done it for a long time now and will keep doing it until someone is identified, appointed by Rosendo N5YBG, and transitioned into the job.

My contact information is at the bottom of this email. The goal is a final slate by October’s meeting. The election is at November’s meeting.

Many hands make the work of leading and administering SARC easier for all, so please take the opportunity to assist.  We need more nominees to help with the day to day operations of the club.  If you want to try and are just not sure you will be good at it, you will only find out if you do try.  Remember, assistance is only a few words away for any position, be it a chairperson or an elected office.  This cannot be stressed enough to help alleviate the concerns about taking on a responsibility, so please consider it a privilege to help when called upon.

On a side note; I’ve been told that I’m way ahead of the game as far as the nominations are concerned.  I do not like to procrastinate and I would rather be ahead of the game than behind it.  I’ve been in both positions and prefer this to the other…

We're still needing more volunteers, Ham and others, for the big ride happening next month.   See this article for more details and to sign up.

http://sanantoniohams.org/blog/?p=8579

Currently we still need more SAG Drivers (prefer Teams of Driver/ Navigator, but will accept single driver only as well) and a few more hams for break points either day.  We only have half the number of SAGs covered so far.

The eagle has landed, we now have our new generator.  I was going to take it to the storage site when it dawned on me that I can just put oil (synthetic) in it, gas and give it a whirl.  Probably wait until tomorrow morning when it’s cooler.

We also have a candidate for Vice President, Lloyd KF5ZHW has agreed to run.  Does anyone else want to jump in?

As was mentioned before, you will not be in it alone.  There are numerous others who would be more than glad to assist if needed.

Filling an officer role does not mean that you are required to do the job alone. Being an officer simply means that you are responsible for ensuring that the job gets done. As an officer, you are allowed — indeed, encouraged — to ask other members of the club to help you fulfill your duties.

When will the new Officers take office? I might be able to serve as VP. As I understand, the major role of VP is locating speakers for meetings. I would like to see the educational of our meetings to move a bit quicker. Maybe even a topic that spans several meetings.

On Sep 4, 2019, at 2:14 PM, Joe Bruno <jlbruno4433@...> wrote:

At this point in time, we have only the president, treasurer, secretary (I
think) who will stay on in their positions. The committee chairs are not
elected but I think they are all on board continuing their duties. David
Finnel N7LRY, Paul Guido N5IUT, Bill Craft KD2HIQ and I will continue our
duties. It should be noted that Bill Craft does the membership AND is our
Webmaster. It should also be noted the Paul Guido will not only be keeping
an eye on our books, but he also is responsible for reporting our Field Day
results to ARRL. Harold Fleischer, AE5AS does the newsletter and is also
responsible for keeping us on an even keel. I myself appreciate everything
he ( the Colonel ) does for our club. Now David Finnel N7LRY has the task
of getting us more HAMs. An ardent task at best. There are other
individuals behind the scenes that carry a load not to be overlooked, so a
big thanks to them also. We have a select group of individuals that fill
what started out to be part of the 80/20, then the 90/10 and has now turned
into STP, Same Ten People. It should be noted that those Same Ten People
could really use some help. Please join in on the fun and become an elected
official for one of the finest HAM Radio clubs in the city, county, state,
hell the whole world!

Now the vice president position is open. Gary (Mike) Harrison, KB5KST
stepped up and did a marvelous job as our Vice President when it was needed.
A big thanks to him and it should be known that he has big shoes to fill. I
just hope that doesn't scare anyone off. As a club, we should all thank him
for doing the wonderful job that he did.

The duties of the Vice President are just about the same as any VP. He or
She would be responsible to take over in the event the President is absent.
The big difference is that they are responsible for getting us our speakers.
If required to make the meeting room prepared and then presentable at the
end to keep us in good standing with the location manager. And at one point
in time our meeting locations. That duty appears to be solved. We are
getting close to the end of our time to fill this position., and we need a
volunteer to help. Please, Please stand up and be counted. If nothing
else we might need to seek an individual to do this. I'm hoping that will
not be necessary and someone will volunteer to run. I'm not out of line
when I say that being an officer in this club is just like getting your
license, there is no age requirement just a willingness to serve.

FYI: I have already been working on field day for 2020. I learned this
while helping to set up and tear down for the San Antonio Stock Show and
Rodeo, again as a volunteer and I did this for years. We started to get
ready every year around December. After doing it this way for two years I
told them what we really need to do is put the rodeo to bed. Wait a couple
of months and then start planning the next one. That way we would have our
planning and any construction done by February in time for the Rodeo. That
turned out much better for all concerned. It appears we need to move our
nominating process back a little.
