Subject: [Heathkit] New: Heathkit Amateur Radio Products eBook

Hello, everyone;

I would like to announce a new ebook version of my previous book “Heathkit:
A Guide to the Amateur Radio Products.” The book is free, and runs in a free app called Evernote.

The use of Evernote allows to the book to be dynamic. That is to say, when I make changes or additions to the book, those changes and additions are sent to your copy immediately. This means you will always have the current version.

Evernote is available free for virtually all desktop and mobile devices, and operating systems, with the exception of Linux. This means you can carry it with you on your smartphone for handy reference.

I have made extensive changes to the book, including new multiple hi-res color photos, extended descriptions, shareable/printable PDF schematics, tube listings with links to tube data, and references to print and online information. And, I tinker with the book all the time, adding new photos and/or information as it becomes available.

To get started with the book, I recommend that you install it first on your desktop/laptop computer. To do this you must establish a free account with Evernote.

Point your browser to this link: http://tinyurl.com/ppj83b3

The rest should be intuitive enough. You will be asked to download the app and “join the notebook.” (Evernote calls these types of files notebooks).
There is a lot of data, so be patient while it loads in. Setting the app to “sort by title” will provide the most logical presentation of the products.

I have not entirely finished all the work I would like to do with the book, so you may notice some gaps here and there, but, as I said, the book is dynamic and I will continue working on it to the fullest extent that time permits.

Please note that I am not able to provide technical support for Evernote, but will do my best to answer any questions you may have.

I invite you comments and suggestions.

Best regards,

Chuck / WA7ZZE

Service Event: Tejas Trails Cactus Rose 100

Louis Upton

Community Service Event
Tejas Trails Cactus Rose 100
Hill Country State Natural Area - Bandera, TX
24 - 25 October 2015

The Cactus Rose 100 is a Ultra-Marathon held at the Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera County Texas.  This is the 9th year for this particular event.  Amateur Radio places a important role in this event by providing the only reliable communications between the Aid Stations and Race Control.  Hill Country REACT has been the coordinating team for this event with cooperation from many of the area clubs and individuals.

We provide regular tracking reports, conditions, Health and Welfare information, and Search and Rescue service and communication as needed.
This is a smaller but longer in duration sister event to the Bandera 100k that occurs in January.

All Amateur Radio Operators and other individuals interested in community service are invited to participate.

Event duration: 36 hours Start 0500 hrs Saturday, End: 1700 hrs Sunday - yes 36 hours straight thru the night.
Meals are provided to volunteers
If you enjoy challenges, testing your skills, camping, and meeting new people, this event is for you.
Even if you cannot participate the entire 36 hours, come out and visit to see what we do and volunteer for the January event.

For more information on this event, please contact me at k5stx10 at gmail dot com.

Thanks,

Louis Upton - K5STX
Tejas Trails Bandera Communications and Safety Coordinator

The missing body of the 25 yr old female,  that was stolen last month from Mission Park Mortuary off Cherry Ridge.

That's what the search is for. Last time the search was in McAllister Park and they did find a buried body. Problem was, it wasn't the one they had been searching for.

Missing Club Radio.

CrayL

Since I have had no response from a prior message via the SARC email list, I thought perhaps I might reach a few additional members here on the group.  At the end of FD last year, someone volunteered to store our club radio for us (Kenwood TS-940) since Rowena & Lewis just didn’t have room to do so any longer.  Unfortunately, those of us at FD 2015 do recall someone volunteering to do so but do not recall who.

If you are holding it for us, (or recall who is), I would appreciate it if you would bring it to the meeting this Thursday, July 9th, 7 PM, at Grady's BBQ, 327 E. Nakoma,  or contact me via  K5MUG at texis dot com .

My first "eyeball QSO" as a ham was at Outback Steakhouse on 281 circa 2003. I don't remember much about it except for sitting across the table from Gordon and sharing a lot of laughs with him and several other hams I was meeting for the first time.  He will be truly missed.

Re: Hi when and where is the 2015 field day going to be held in san antoino?thanks Tony

Mike Check K5UCQ

Saturday/Sunday.

---------------------------------------------------

We start Friday, June 26 , at 3:30 PM at  Mini-Stor Self Storage unit.  We need to load up several pickups/vans/cars, and take the trailer to Shavano Park.  At Shavano Park we need to set up the tent, drop off tables/chairs and other supplies for Saturday.

T Mini-Stor Self Storage is at 1018 Patricia Dr, about 75 yards from the Patricia & West Avenue intersection. The driveway/entry is shared with Sterling H20 Car Wash (lime green building at 1030 Patricia Dr).

The Shavano Park Municipal Center is at 900 Saddletree Court,

The Friday effort involves facilities setup, Saturday we fill finish up required facilities and setup the operational equipment i.e. radios, antennas, computers, etc.

We must have volunteers, three or four of us can’t get it done.  Please let me know if you can assist Friday for setup, Saturday setup, and Sunday teardown.

We had low count attendance at this month’s meeting, and consequently, low sign-up for FD setup/operation/teardown.   We would really appreciate advance intentions for those able to help, it’s not good to find out we don’t have to get the job done efficiently.  It’s very tough for a minimal number of volunteers to get things done the way they should be done.   Last year it took about 8 or 10 of us about four hours or so to load up, transport, and setup at Shavano Park Friday - If only few show up for Fridays setup, it’s either not going to get done, or it will be well up into the night before we get finished.

If we do not get the facilities ready, and the stations operational, FD will not take place:  Field Day can’t happen if we do not get Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning setups done.

I’m recovering from a near hit lightning strike that occurred this AM (Sunday).  I HOPE to have cable internet and home phone service back up tomorrow (Monday) morning.  Am connecting through cell phone tethering at the moment and am fairly limited.  Cell phone communications is good (calls, text, and mobile email), k5mug@...  and craylester@... primary emails will be checked two or three times a day until I have verified cable internet and phone service.  So far, the decedent’s are two desktop computers, cable modem, about a half dozen wall-warts (and chargers), a couple led lights/lamps, Keurig coffee maker, and an over-the-air rooftop antenna.  Thank goodness my K3, the TS570, and other ham equipment seems to have survived without harm!   So much for the good news!

I think mine is an E also. Bought it new back in the 70s. Unfortunately when we moved in 1990, in our then new house every time I fired it up, it fired off the fire alarm. So that kinda curtailed my hamming. But computers filled the void.

Me too.  I have a FT-101E that was rescued from a dumpster by a co-worker of my son.  He wanted $50 for it and wouldn't take more.  It took some cleanup and paint and removal of LED lights (I like original).

Looking for someone who can look at and fix a FT-101B for a HAM so he can sell it.  He lives on the NW side, west of 1604 out Culebra Road.

If you have the knowledge, test equipment, and time, let me know and I will put you in contact with him.  The problem sounds like it may be finals or associated circuits.
