When I bought my 5Rs the programming cable was extra. The cable came with software, but I have used Chirp. Quirky program, but once you figure out the quirks, it works pretty well on the UV5R, a Waxshun, and the newer Baofeng 888s

He should have gotten a USB programming cable and software with the radio, as I recall. I could probably find my cable, but not sure about software. Installed it on computer that is basically dead now. From: Mike Check k5ucq@... [W5SC]
